Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

2020

Hands down the best platformer I have ever played. It takes the great condensed linear platforming of the original trilogy and jacks it up by 10. Mask abilities keep the already fast paced gameplay fast and challenging. Crash now has his full move set from the get go so no more needing to unlock the double jump like Crash WoC and Crash 3. Control feels extremely responsive and controls I say BETTER than the originals. Visuals are some of the most stunning cartoony visuals this generation has to offer while also being able to play at a silky smooth 60 fps on the PS4 Pro/One X. Characters have been given a complete design overhaul not only improving the realistic muddy designs from the remake trilogy, but paying homage to the cartoons that inspired Crash in the first place. Level design is fantastic for most of the game. I found parts of the game in the Tawna and Cortex levels to be a little messy in design, but they are so few and far between it barley over shadows the fantastic design of the Crash and Dingodile levels. The story wasn't anything crazy, but it's perfect to carry along the fantastic writing of this game reminding me of how games like Crash Twinsanity were written. If you haven't picked this game up yet and want something to play for the net generation of consoles I suggest picking it up. It's in my opinion the best platformer I have played in a very long time and made me remember how great this genre can be and makes me excited for future games in both the Crash and Spyro franchises.
